News roundup--Debenhams, MandM Direct, more

By Direct Commerce | Publication date: 28/06/2012 | Category: News

Debenhams announced solid results for the second half of the year, with sales up 1.4 percent against a tough trading environment and bad weather dampening demand for summer clothing. In the 16 weeks to 23rd June, total sales were up 3.9 percent with online sales up 34.9 percent during the period. Mobile continues to be the fastest growing channel, accounting for some 30 percent of website traffic, and free wi-fi is now available for customers to use in all UK stores.

MandM Direct has embarked on a search to find the face of its autumn/winter 12 fashion launch. Aspiring models can apply by uploading a current photo via the company’s Facebook page. Entries will be judged by the MandM Direct panel, which will select the final 50. Thereafter, the retailer’s Facebook followers can vote for their favourite.

Following the appointment of Tim Fisher as retail director, Fortnum & Mason is “close to hiring a chief executive” to replace Beverley Aspinall, who quit in May, writes the Telegraph.
